Waterloo Mayor Brenda Halloran visited our grade 4/5 class today. The grade 5’s chose to participate in a contest to be Mayor for The Day. In preparation for writing in that contest, the Mayor was invited to the class to talk about her role as mayor. When she arrived she told that class a little about herself and how she overcame adversity to become mayor. She gave advice to the students about believing in themselves and following their dreams. Students had lots of questions to ask about things like the city, transportation, taxes, and other details of a mayor’s job. The students in room 16 now have a much deeper understanding of the role of the mayor and have learned a great deal about their own city and plans for its future development.
