NLW Roller Coaster Projects 2014/15    Students in grade 8 have been creating a STEM project (Science, Tech, Engineering, and Math combined) that involves designing and building a working marble Roller Coaster that uses Gravity as its main energy source. We created a set of Success Criteria for the Coasters based on the rules and regulations posted by Canada’s Wonderland. Groups then had to use math to calculate the best velocity for their Coaster track and then had to make it work. There are two categories for the competition, one is a technical merit score for the coasters that is based on run time and loops involved, the other is an artistic merit score based on the coaster that are most aesthetically pleasing but still work. The top four coasters at our school will be entered in the Canada’s Wonderland Wondercoaster Competition in May.
