Thanks to the Strong Start Parent Volunteers for their support in another very successful program at NLW.

As the school year winds down, we are ready to celebrate another successful session of the “Letters, Sounds, and Words – A Strong Start to Reading Programme.”  This year had 15 students working one on one with their coaches, strengthening their knowledge of letters, sounds, and words over one or two ten week sessions.   Great gains were made by all our Strong Start students this year!

The Strong Start programmes use short games and fun activities to provide repetition to help children recognize letters; their corresponding sounds; and how to build and recognize sight words.   The programmes rely on the commitment of volunteers to coach each child, 30 minutes once per week (per programme strand), for ten weeks.   We’d like to thank all of our volunteer coaches, both those from this Spring Session and those from the Fall Session!  Their commitment to the programme has a direct impact on the students’ success!  Thank you, Coaches!!

If you are looking for a compact but meaningful volunteer opportunity next school year, consider becoming a Strong Start Coach!   Training sessions begin in the fall; please see the Strong Start website for more details –  www.strongstart.ca
