The Grade 3’s in Room 10 have been learning how to retell a story that they have listened to or read themselves. To show our comprehension (understanding) we include the setting, characters, and the problem and solution in the story, as well as details from the beginning, middle and end of the story.
After listening to the story Those Shoes, Jared wrote this detailed retell of the story.
“Jeremy was in the city. He wanted shoes that everyone else had. Grandma told Jeremy that she had a little bit of money to spend. So they took a bus to the shoe shop. They had those shoes but they were too much money. They went to 3 thrift shops. The last one had the shoes but they were too small. Jeremy decided to buy them anyway. At gym, he noticed that Antonio had taped up shoes. Grandma called both kids over for dinner. After dinner, Antonio noticed that Jeremy had the shoes but he did not wear them. The next day, Jeremy snuck the shoes into Antonio’s house. That same day at school, Antonio was smiling because he had the shoes. At recess, the teacher announced that they would wear boots!”
