Something as simple as: “Are you okay,” or “You can come play with me,” can make a positive impact on someone’s life. That’s all it takes. So why are we struggling to take the time to do the small things to make a person smile or feel good?
As educators we can see positive mental health starts at a young age and we believe it is important that students start to understand the importance and value of mental health and to start to talk about it openly.
The primary students at Northlake Woods Public School, (SK kindergarten – grade 4) came up with some kind words they can say to others or ways in which they can make others feel good, smile and show that they care: “You can play with me,” “Can I help you?,” “Are you okay?,” “Be kind,” “Be nice,” “I include everyone,” “I make my friends feel better,” “I make people smile and laugh,” “Please listen to me,” and “My feelings matter.”
All kids matter & so do their words!
Please join the effort to help reduce the stigma of conversations about mental health, and make positive steps towards lasting change.
