Congratulations to our very own Grade 5 student, Uzair, who wrote an essay about Multi Cultural Events in Schools, which earned him the opportunity to be selected as one of 8 WRDSB students to act as City Councillors for a day. His day began with breakfast with the Mayor of Waterloo at the Rotary Club. Then they shared ideas with the Mayor about ways that things could improve in Waterloo. Later they went to play Pickle Ball (a mixture of table tennis and badminton) at the RIM Complex Gym. After that they enjoyed a Limo bus ride to the new fire station at the University of Waterloo. At the fire station they enjoyed a pizza lunch. They then went to the Waterloo Museum to see dinosaurs and to see exhibits about the history of Waterloo. Following that they went to the Waterloo City Hall to finish their day by doing some polling. The poll was about how neighbourhoods in Waterloo could be improved.
Uzair thought it was a great experience for kids. He got to learn about different things about the city and what the Mayor does in a day. It may have inspired him to be a politician later in life. We are very proud of Uzair’s entry and the way he represented our school as Councillor for the Day.
