Students from our school’s Eco Club attended the WRDSB’s annual ECOFest on June 6th. “ECOFest began in 2008 as a partnership between local municipalities and environmentally-focused businesses with the hope of empowering residents of Waterloo Region with all of the tips, ideas and knowledge they need to reduce their own costs and environmental footprint by making simple and sensible lifestyle changes” WRM News Release. Eco schools in the Waterloo region attended this event to participate in green activities and to receive their certification for efforts made this past year. The certification was based on 4 areas of environmental awareness: Ecological awareness, waste minimization, energy conservation and school ground greening. Schools were awarded either a Bronze, Silver or Gold certification depending on their scores in each of the four areas.
For the second year in a row, Northlake Woods was presented with a Gold certification. What does this mean? Northlake Woods scored extremely high in all four areas of environmental awareness. This achievement demonstrates that the students at Northlake Woods and their families are working hard to become environmentally responsible citizens and are helping us to reduce our school’s ecological footprint. We couldn’t have done it without all of your support.
Thank you to everyone at Northlake Woods School for helping us to become a Gold Eco School. Remember to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
