Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are always welcome at NLW. Here are some of the possible opportunities:

Strong Start: Northlake Woods PS has partnered with the Strong Start® to provide Letters, Sounds and Words – “a reading skills program designed to be implemented by volunteers who do not need to have related experience”.  Coaches work one on one with students for a period of ten weeks.  The program uses short games and fun activities to provide repetition to help children recognize letters; their corresponding sounds; and how to build and recognize sight words. Volunteer coaches work with each child for thirty minutes per week, following detailed activities using materials provided by the Strong Start organization. Training for coaches is provided by Strong Start.

Library: Volunteers are always welcome to help with shelving books in the library.

Used Book Sale: Volunteers are need to set up, sell, organize, and clean up our annual end-of-year Used Book Sale.

Scholastic Book Fair: Volunteers are needed to work a minimum of two hours (or more!) at the book sale. Duties include: sales, tidying of merchandise, and assisting students with item selection.

Pizza Lunch Helpers: Volunteers are required on Thursdays from 12:45p.m. -1:30 p.m to count and sort pizza slices for distribution to classrooms. Typically volunteers may commit to one month or more.

If you are able to help out, please contact the school 519-885-1115 or email NLWschoolcouncil@gmail.com. All volunteers are required to provide a Vulnerable Sector Police Check.
